PAINTERS OF AZERBAIJAN
18. MIRZA KADYM IREVANI MAMMAD HUSEYN OGLU (1825–1875)

Mirza Kadym Irevani was born in the city of Irevani, Western Azerbaijan. He learnt the art of painting from his father who was a woodcarver. At the initial stages of his art, Mirza Kadym Irevani was engaged in decorative arts and worked as an ornamental artist and a portrait painter. He is the founder of easel painting in Azerbaijan. “Cavalryman”, “Dancer” and “Dervish” are his paintings currently demonstrated at the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan. The painter recovered the panneau and the history paintings in the Sardar’s Palace in Irevan. He painted Fath-Ali Shah Qajar’s and Abbas Mirza’s mural portraits on the walls of the Hall of Mirrors in the palace. This architectural monument was destroyed as a result of Armenian aggression.
